Eight Event Championships Highlight Friday in Mankato

MANKATO, Minn. – Augustana track and field collected eight event titles at the Ted Nelson Classic on Friday afternoon, powered by several all-time Viking performances.
 
In the women's 60-meter dash prelims, Lily Juhnke clocked a new PR of 7.66 to qualify for the event finals. She then won the event with an even newer PR of 7.58, which is second all-time at AU. Over on the men's side of the finals, Layton Johnson took fifth in a PR of 7.03 and Trent DeCook was seventh in 7.11 for a new personal best.
 
Over in the 60-meter hurdle finals, Tyler Christianson clocked a PR of 8.58 for fifth and, on the women's side, Kylee Sallee was fifth in 9.19.
 
DeCook went on to claim runner-up in the men's 200-meter dash in 22.09 and was followed behind by Melik Davis in the top-10 with a fifth-place finish in 22.61. Nyanas Kur won the women's event with a clocking of 24.68 as Juhnke took seventh in 25.79 and Caitlin Ostbye ran a 26.28 for 10th.
 
Jude Jarding led a pair to top-10 finishes in the 400-meter dash with a clocking of 50.01 for fourth and Liam Schick came seventh in 50.86. Ella Heinitz was runner-up for the women in 58.01 as Maia Peterson took third in 58.34 and Jayda Becker clocked a 1:01.58 for ninth.
 
Nicholas Batien won the men's 600-meter run in 1:27.77 as Tyler Sellin followed in third with a 1:28.51 and Ashton Massey clocked a 1:42.29 for fifth place in the women's race.
 
In the women's 800-meter run, Caroline Sudbeck ran a 2:21.10 to finish fifth as Tenley Nelson came right behind in sixth with a 2:21.24.
 
Viking domination was the theme of the men's mile run with the top seven finishers, led by event champion Tyson Ricker's PR of 4:16.05. Payton Brown was runner-up in 4:18.62, Bryant Keller came third in 4:19.36 and Isaiah Anderson was fourth in 4:19.95. Nick Batchelor (fifth, 4:20.93), Kieran Wiegelt (sixth, 4:25.02) and Alex Schumacher (seventh, 4:26.27) rounded out the finishers.
 
The same carried over for the women's mile as Ramsey Karim ran a 5:10.45 for runner-up to lead four Vikings to top-five finishes. Lindsey Young came third in a PR of 5:11.35, Ally Sample ran a 5:11.48 for fourth and Taylor Melton was fifth in 5:14.33.
 
Bryn Greenwaldt won the high jump with a 5-07.75 and was joined by Sallee with a 5-01.25 for eighth and Clara Binstock was ninth with a personal best of 4-11.50.
 
Sallee collected another event title for the Vikings in the long jump with the second-best mark in school history, 19-02.00. Becker (18-01.00) was second, Maria Pedroso (17-06.00) came third and Ellen Merkley (17-00.00) finished sixth.
 
In the women's triple jump, Mackenzie Hemmer was runner-up with a mark of 34-11.75 to lead four Vikings into the top-five. Massey took third with a 34-10.25, Nyamal Changeson jumped a 33-10.00 for fourth and Lexi Olderbak came fifth with a 33-06.75.
 
Both the men's and women's 4x400-meter relay 'A' teams won their respective relays with clockings of 3:22.11 and 3:5434, respectively.
 
UP NEXT
The Vikings will return north to Brookings for the SDSU Indoor Classic on Feb. 14 and 15 at the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex.
