SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Augustana wrestling leave the state of South Dakota for the first time this season on Saturday. The Vikings travel to Kearney, Neb. for the Holiday Inn Open and the meet will start at 9 a.m. and runs all day.
The Holiday Inn Open will be held at the Buffalo Co. Fairgrounds where 40+ teams will send wrestlers to battle in the tournament. Schools represented will come from Division I and II, NAIA and JUCO.
Last weekend, 11 Vikings placed in the top-four at the Dakota Wesleyan Open, including three wrestlers taking first.
Austin Jordan (141),
Colin Ayers (149 and
Ben Goodwin (197) each wrestled their way to first place finishes in their respective weight classes. At 184 pounds
Aero Amo and
Austin Ward (unattached) both made the finals but didn't wrestle each other.
Clayton Wahlstrom (197) and
Michael Lowman (285) each took second for the Vikings. Third place finishers were
Brandon Carroll (125-unattached) and
Mitch Rechtzigel (165). Fourth place finishers for Augustana were
Jebben Keyes (133-unattached) and
Tyler Nation (157).
The Vikings will have the next week off for Thanksgiving and will return to action Dec. 4 for the South Dakota Showcase at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, S.D. The Showcase will feature Augustana, South Dakota State, Northern State and Dakota Wesleyan in a dual style tournament.
