BROOKINGS, S.D. – On the final day of the SDSU Classic in Brookings, S.D., senior
Irene Almarcha highlighted the day by hitting a provisional mark in the 60-meter hurdles.
Almarcha hit a season best mark, as well as a provisional mark, in the prelims of the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.78. Almarcha finished fourth in the finals with a time of 8.81.
Valerie Moos ran a personal best time in the prelims with a time of 9.04.
In the men's 60-meter hurdles,
Paul Meloche ran the fourth best time in the prelims with a time of 8.34 and
Evan Ward ran a personal record time of 8.46.
In the 400-meters, personal records were not safe on either the men's or women's side. On the men's side,
Josh Barrows (49.04),
Austin Miller (52.23),
Ryan Stiles (52.29),
Blake Savey (52.75),
Nick Reiffenberger (54.05) and
Riley Crawford (55.84) all hit personal bests.
On the women's side,
Emma Schmidt (59.62),
Brooke DeVos (59.83) and
Taylor Koch (1:02.51) each raced to personal best times.
In the mile,
Mackenzie Kelly finished in eighth with a personal record time of 5:06.91, her second personal record of the weekend.
Noah Hanson and
Collin VanDussen each hit personal bests in the men's race.
In sprints,
Trey Heid and Crawford hit personal bests in the 60-meter dash.
In field events,
Lily Noble finished 14th in the pole vault with a season best mark of 10-11.75.
Eli Anderson (high jump) and
Josh Reider (triple jump) each recorded personal bests on the day.
"This meet gave us an opportunity to see and compete against some of the top teams in the region and within our conference," coach
Greg Binstock said of the SDSU Classic. "We had strong performances across the board as we now will begin look toward the conference meet in two weeks and begin to taper our training."
Olivia Montez Brown,
Peter Schukking and
Alex Woods are set to compete at the NSIC Multi-Events in Mankato, Minn. at the Meyers Fieldhouse on Sunday and Monday, Feb. 12-13. The women's pentathlon will begin at 2 p.m. on Sunday and will conclude on Sunday. The men's heptathlon will start at 3 p.m. on Sunday and will continue at 11 a.m. on Monday.
