INDIANAPOLIS - The Augustana University women's basketball team fell one spot to No. 8 in the third installment of the NCAA Central Region rankings released by the national office on Wednesday.
The top four spots remained unchanged for the second straight week. Emporia State (22-4) is still ranked No. 1, followed by Harding (23-3), Pittsburg State (22-4) and MSU Moorhead (23-4). Central Oklahoma (21-6) and Central Missouri (21-5) each improved one position to fifth and sixth respectively while Arkansas Tech (20-6) fell two positions to seventh. The Vikings (19-8) are ranked eighth followed by Wayne State (21-6) and the University of Sioux Falls (19-7).
Not ranked is Northern State who defeated Sioux Falls in the NSIC Championship game and earned an automatic bid into the NCAA Regional.
The Central Region is made up of teams from the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association and the Great American Conference. The top eight teams in the region advance to the NCAA Central Region Tournament March 10-11, 13. Automatic bids are granted to the winners of the NSIC, MIAA and GAC postseason tournaments, with the remaining five spots being awarded on an at-large basis.
The NCAA Women's Basketball Selection Show will air on NCAA.com at 9 p.m. (CT) on Sunday, March 5. The NCAA Regional will take place March 10-13 at a site to be named later followed by the Elite 8 which will take place on March 21-22 & 24 at Alumni Hall on the campus of Ohio Dominican University in Columbus, Ohio.
