SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Augustana track and field team wrapped up the regular season with a trio of provisionally qualifying time on Saturday at the Howard Wood Relays in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Valerie Moos had herself a day with a personal best and a provisionally qualifying time of 1:00.56 in the 400-meter hurdles and taking first place. Moos' time ranks second in the NSIC and 15th in Division II.
Taylor Koch (7th),
Morgan Rothschadl (8th) and
Ashley Solano (10th) also finished in the top-10 in the race with Koch and Solano recording personal record times.
In the men's 400-meter hurdles,
Josh Barrows finished with a season's best time of 53.34, finishing in first in the race. Barrows' time is a provisional qualifier and ranks first in the NSIC.
Dylon Van't Hof (3rd),
Evan Ward (7th) and
Peter Schukking (9th) finished in the top-10 with Schukking recording a personal high time.
Senior
Emma Anderson recorded her first career provisional qualifying mark with a time of 4:32.74 in her second place finish in the 1,500-meters, which ranks second in the NSIC.
In hurdles,
Irene Almarcha took third in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.66 and Moos finished in sixth with a time of 15.13. In the men's 110-meter hurdles,
Paul Meloche led the pack with a fourth place finish, followed by Van't Hof (5th) and Ward (8th).
In sprints,
Trey Heid took fifth in the 100-meters with a time of 11.30 and in the women's 100-meters, Alana Klapperich finished in ninth with a time of 13.10.
In field events,
Izzy Van Veldhuizen recorded a seventh place finish in the discus with a toss of 122-10. In the women's long jump,
Sarah Westerman took eighth with a mark of 15-08.25 and
Sara Heyn notched a season's best jump of 15-03.25 and took 10th.
In the women's 4x400-meter relay, Moos,
Cortney Dowling, Anderson and
Brooke DeVos finished in third with a time of 3:53.09. In the men's 4x400-meter relay,
Chris Sharpe,
Blake Savey, Barrows and
Austin Miller took fourth with a time of 3:21.33.
"It was a great final tune-up for our team as we head into the NSIC Championships next week," coach
Tracy Hellman said of his team's final regular season meet. "I thought our group had a good weekend and we made some good progress towards the end of the year. I thought
Valerie Moos had a great 400-meter hurdles and also a strong 4x400-relay. Emma hitting a provisional in the 1,500-meters was also encouraging. I'm excited to see what our team can do next weekend."
Next up for the Vikings will be postseason competition as they will travel to NSIC Outdoor Championships in St. Paul, Minn. on May 12-13.
