Augustana Baseball Set for Three-Game Series With Southwest Baptist

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- The Augustana baseball team heads to Bolivar, Missouri, this weekend to take on the Bearcats of Southwest Baptist in a three-game series.

The Event
Games one and two are slated for Saturday with first pitch set for noon. Game three is scheduled to start at noon on Sunday. The Vikings are 10-7 in the all-time series with the Bearcats with Augustana winning the most recent matchup 10-6. The last time the squads met was a doubleheader during the 2008 season which resulted in a split.

The Bearcats
Southwest Baptist comes into the weekend series with a 6-6 record including a 3-3 home record. The Bearcats swept Christian Brothers in a three-game series to start the year, before getting swept by Harding in three games one week later. The Bearcats then dropped two of three to Wayne State and took two of three from Winona State.

The Vikings
Last series, the Vikings recorded a split with Emporia State, winning games one and two. Augustana launched seven homers in the series, three by Jaxon Rosencranz, two by Riley Johnson and one apiece for Carter Howell and Will Olson.

Howell and Rosencranz led a Vikings' offense that scored 35 runs last series with incredible performances at the plate. Howell went 12-16 in the four games with eight runs scored, three RBIs, two walks, one double and one homer while Rosencranz went 7-17 with six runs scored, nine RBIs, three homers and two triples.

Overall, Augustana has five hitters hitting over .300, Ryan Nickel, Bjorn Hanson, Johnson, Howell and Jordan Barth who has hit safely in all eight games this season.

Player to Watch
After a slow start against Arkansas Monticello, junior outfielder Jaxon Rosencranz's bat caught fire last weekend against Emporia State. His stellar weekend put him in the team lead for RBIs, total bases, slugging percentage and extra base hits. Make sure to keep an eye out when Rosencranz steps up to the plate against the Bearcats.

One Last Thing
After Sunday's game with Southwest Baptist, the Vikings return to Sioux Falls for a 12-game homestand from Mar. 10 to Mar. 25.
