BURNSVILLE, Minn. -- Augustana cross country's junior Nicolette Schmidt has been honored by the NSIC as the Runner of the Week the league announced Tuesday. 

Schmidt is awarded the achievement due to her performance at the Chile Pepper Festival on Oct. 1 where she led the No. 3 Vikings to a third-place, finishing behind Division I opponents in No. 10 ranked Arkansas and Tulsa.

The Redfield, South Dakota, native placed 19th overall in a field of 322 runners, running a time of 17:27.3.

This is the NSIC Preseason Athlete of the Year's first weekly honor this season.

The Vikings will have a break before competing at the conference meet on Oct. 23 hosted by Wayne State, in Wayne, Nebraska.
