No. 15 Augustana Wrestling Brings Down No. 10 Mavericks

Vikings See Eight Individual Winners in Dual

MANKATO, Minn– Viking wrestling traveled to Mankato, Minnesota, on Sunday for a bout with the Minnesota State Mavericks. The Vikings saw eight wrestlers earn victories in a 27-6 final to take down the 10th ranked Mavericks.
 
The Mavericks have three nationally ranked wrestlers with No. 8 Trenton McManus at 125 pounds, No. 4 Kyle Rathman at 149 pounds and No. 2 Trevor Turriff at 174 pounds.
 
The Vikings have three nationally ranked wrestlers in No. 5 Jack Huffman, No. 8 Kolby Kost and No. 4 Steven Hajas.
 
Jaxson Rohman earned Augustana's first victory of the dual over No. 8 Trenton McManus of Minnesota State. Rohman won by way of a 7-5 decision. 
 
Jack Huffman, competing at 133 pounds, logged Augustana's second victory of the dual. Huffman recorded a fall at 3:57 over his Minnesota State opponent.
 
Brandon Carroll had a busy third period, improving the 3-2 second period score to win by a 10-5 decision. Carroll logged two takedowns, a reversal, and a four-point nearfall to gain the advantage over his opponent.
 
Keaten Schorr, wrestling at 149 pounds, defeated No. 4 Kyle Rathman from MSU by way of 3-1 decision. An escape point, penalty point, and stalling point helped Schorr to the victory. 
 
At 157 pounds, Tyler Wagener recorded seven points to defeat his opponent by way of 7-2 decision. Wagener tallied two takedowns and earned two escape points to bring the score to six. A point for riding time brought Wagener's score to seven.
 
Miles Fitzgerald, competing at 165 pounds, won via a 6-2 decision. Fitzgerald scored points with a takedown, an escape and a reversal, and a point for stalling on his opponent totaled his score to six.
 
Cade Mueller, competing at 174 pounds, defeated No. 2 Trevor Turriff of Minnesota State by way of 3-2 decision. Mueller saw a takedown and an escape in a thrilling victory. 
 
Daniel Bishop saw the Viking's last victory of the dual with an 11-4 decision. Bishop earned points with three takedowns, two escapes, and a two-point nearfall. A point for riding time was added to his score. 
 
Up Next
The Vikings return to action in the New Year at the Viking-Warrior Open on January 8, hosted by Midland University.
