BROOKINGS, S.D. -- The Augustana track & field teams had another stellar day at the oval office. The teams competed in two meets in the Ichabod Invitational in Topeka, Kansas, and the SDSU Indoor Classic in Brookings, South Dakota.Â
The Ichabod Invitational
The Augustana quartet of Nicolette Schmidt, Patty Jo English, Callin Naddy and Sydney Mudgett all had strong days Saturday, just a day after setting the school record in the DMR on Friday at an event hosted by Pittsburg State. They all ran the DMR in 11:39.08.Â
Two NCAA Provisional qualifying marks were hit in the women's 3,000m with Schmidt, a junior, and English, a sophomore, running times of 9:49.14 and 9:57.13, respectively. Their times sit in the first two spots of the conference.
Naddy added to the provisional qualifying marks with her time in the mile, placing fourth in the event in a time of 4:56.04 which also leads the NSIC this year.Â
Mudgett, a senior, ran a personal best in the 600m in a time of 1:28.64 that placed her fourth in the event.
On the men's side, senior Austin Miller ran to a new personal best and provisional qualifying time in the mile, clocking in at 4:07.08 which currently sits 18th in the nation. Junior Evan Johnson followed Miller closely, also earning a new personal best and provisional qualifying time in 4:10.37.
Hitting the sixth provisional qualifying mark of the day was senior Tiegen Lindner in the 800m running a time of 1:52.74 which is currently best in the NSIC.Â
Senior Alec Kray placed third in the 5,000m in a provisional qualifying time of 14:10.51 placing third in the event and besting the 5,000m school record by eight seconds. Kray's time is top in the conference and currently sits 15th in the nation.Â
The SDSU Indoor Classic
The women's 800m proved to be a strong event for the Vikings with freshman Caroline Sudbeck placing third in a time of 2:15.46 which currently holds the third spot in the conference.Â
Three additional Vikings broke 2:20 in senior Kali Ryan, sophomore Cami Streff and junior Haylee Waterfall in times of 2:16.74, 2:19.10 and 2:19.80, respectively.
The 3,000m included four Vikings breaking the 10-minute barrier. Junior Rebekah Rairdon led the way, winning the event in a time of 9:52.53, with the other three Vikings finishing within four seconds of Rairdon's time, all four times being provisional times. The times give Augustana the top six times in the conference in the event, with the other two 3,000m times in the Ichabod Invitational.
On the men's side junior Henry Klitzke ran a provisional time in the 5,000m winning the event in a time of 14:25.39 which is a personal best for Klitzke and also sits him second the conference.Â
Sophomore Kray Person also ran a top-six conference time in 14:55.29.
The 3,000m secured two additional top-5 times within the conference in sophomore Matt Steiger's 8:29.10 and freshman Colten Brand's 8:29.89 ranking them fourth and fifth in the NSIC, respectively.Â
Junior Tyl Woelber placed second in the triple jump with a leap of 46-05.25, which is tied for fourth in the NSIC.
The Vikings rounded out the meet with a strong performance in the 4x400m relay running a time of 3:21.49 with the quadruple of sophomore Matthew Schoessow, senior Ryan Sully, sophomore Lawrence Lokonobei and sophomore Jed Dooyema. The time is second in the conference this year.Â
Augustana returns to Brookings, South Dakota, next week for the SDSU Last Chance Meet to complete the regular season.
