Augustana Track & Field Completes NSIC Championships

Viking Men Finish Second; Viking Women Finish Third

DULUTH, Minn. -- The Augustana track & field teams wrapped up the NSIC Outdoor Championships with a runner-up finish from the men and a third-place finish from the women in Duluth, Minnesota, on Saturday.

The men placed second behind Minnesota State's 214.5 points, scoring 115 points, Concordia-St. Paul placed third with 84 points. On the women's side, the Vikings placed third with 90 points, behind first-place UMary scoring 174 points and Minnesota State's 157 points.

Preseason Field Athlete of the Year, Tyl Woelber defended his 2019 javelin title winning the event in school-record fashion. Going into the last throw of the day Woelber was in second place before releasing a new personal-best heave of 206-4.25 to take the win by just over two feet.

The men's metric mile granted 20 points for the Vikings. Senior Austin Miller bested the field with a commanding kick down the home stretch to win in a time of 3:50.31. Augustana claimed spots five through eight to claim the majority of the available points. 

In the women's metric mile, Patty Jo English lowered her personal-best placing second in the field with a time of 4:26.61. Her time moves her to No. 2 on the all-time list. 

Two additional Vikings scored points in the 1,500m with Meagan Schenk placing fifth and Cami Streff placing eighth, their times were 4:34.24 and 4:35.81, respectively.

Kaly Banks placed fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 38-2.25 to give the Vikings five points.

Evan Johnson placed fifth running 3:52.49, Tiegen Lindner placed sixth clocking in at 3:53.61, Colten Brand placed seventh in 3:54.30. Ryan Hartman, doubling back from his steeplechase victory yesterday, claimed eighth place in 3:55.40.

Senior Selin Dikmen ran a personal best in the 100m-hurdle finals running a time of 14.33 to place fifth.

Senior Ryan Sully scored a point for the Vikings in the 400m running a time of 49.64.

Two points came in for the Vikings in the women's 800m with Cami Streff, doubling back from the 1,500m running a time of 2:17.91.

An hour after winning the 1,500m, the aforementioned Miller came back to place third in the 800m running a time of 1:55.22. The Vikings gained an additional point with Lindner, who also came back after running the 1,500m an hour prior, placing eighth in 2:01.39.

Freshman Melik Davis garnered two points in the 200m placing seventh in a time of 21.99.

The 5,000m races brought on points of plenty for both Viking teams.

In the women's race, Megan Means had a runner-up finish running 16:57.06. She was followed closely by the aforementioned English, clocking in at 17:00.06 for third-place. Nicolette Schmidt garnered a fourth-place finish running 17:22.35 to bring the Vikings 19 total points from the event

On the men's side, Alec Kray ran a time of 14:25.70 running under the previous conference record to finish second in the field. The Vikings took spots four through six from Henry Klitzke, Ryan Hartman and Evan Johnson running 14:37.34, 14:40.48, and 14:41.40, respectively. The scoring was rounded out by Matt Steiger, who placed eighth in 14:46.05, giving the Vikings 21 points from the event.

The final event for the Vikings was the 4x400m relay where the women came away with a seventh-place finish and the men placed fifth.

The women's relay ran a time of 3:56.30 being led off by Dikmen, Kaitlyn Mulder running the second leg, Sydney Mudgett running the third leg, and Caroline Sudbeck running the anchor.

The men's relay ran a time of 3:20.68 being led off by Jed Dooyema, Sully running the second leg, Noah Melton running the third leg, and Josh Schumacher running the anchor.
