MANKATO, Minn. -- The Augustana track & field team closed the books on the regular season at the Maverick Classic hosted by Minnesota State on Friday. Junior Tyl Woelber had a record-setting day earning a new personal-best and school record in the javelin throw with a heave of 200-08, the mark is an NCAA provisional qualifying mark that won the event.Â
This is the third-consecutive weekend where a school record has fallen.
The aforementioned Woelber won two more events on the day, winning the long jump with another NCAA provisional qualifying mark, along with a victory in the high jump. His jump in the long jump was 23-10 while he cleared 6-6.75 in the high jump.
The women's metric mile brought two top-five all-time runs with Patty Jo English winning the event in a time of 4:27.91. The run was a new personal-best and lowered her NCAA provisional qualifying time, moving her to No. 3 on the all-time list. Teammate Nicolette Schmidt was close behind in second place also lowering her personal-best and provisional qualifying time running 4:30.10.Â
Senior Claire Boersma made a splash in the 3,000m steeplechase winning the event in a time of 11:44.47.
In the men's 3,000m steeplechase, freshman Ryan Hartman made his debut winning the event in a time of 9:45.53. Teammate Caden Tegethoff had a runner-up finish running 10:09.66.
The 400m proved to be a strong event for the Vikings as senior Sydney Mudgett tied her personal-best winning the event in 57.84. On the men's side, senior Ryan Sully won the event narrowly missing his personal-best running 49.49. Jed Dooyema claimed a runner-up finish in 50.25 fashion.
Freshman Melik Davis ran a personal-best in the 100m prelims with a time of 10.76. He came back to place fourth in the finals clocking in at 11.12. Davis also placed second in the 200m running 22.12 narrowly missing his personal-best.
Mearah Miedema elevated her outdoor personal-best in the high jump clearing 5-8.50 to place first and improve upon her NCAA provisional qualifying mark. Her mark ties her for No. 5 on the all-time list.
Senior Selin Dikmen had two top-three finishes placing third in both the 100m-hurdles and the 200m running times of 14.75 and 25.10, respectively.
In the men's 800m, Jonah Breuer ran a personal-best 1:55.22 to place second in the event.
The Vikings return to action for the NSIC Outdoor Championships May 13-15 hosted by Minnesota Duluth.
