SIOUX CENTER, Iowa – The Augustana cross country teams traveled to Sioux Center, Iowa, to compete in the Holiday Inn Express Classic, hosted by Dordt University, on Saturday.
"It was a great day for our crew who raced at Dordt," said head coach Tracy Hellman. "We had numerous personal bests and multiple top 10 finishes."
Six women competed for the Vikings this weekend. Newcomer Ella Bakken crossed the 5K finishing tape first for Augustana with a time of 18:21.35 placing 5th. At Bakkens heels was sophomore Taylor Melton who ran in 6th place with a time of 18:21.84.
Additional point scores for the Vikings were sophomores Caroline Sudbeck and Aubrey Surage. The pair came in ninth and tenth place with Sudbeck running in a time of 18:30.36 and Surage with a time of 18:35.24 to wrap up the first heat.
Sophomores Jayda Becker and Emma Hughes crossed the finish line in 140th and 141st place. Becker ran in with a time of 23:52.20 and Hughes within inches with a time of 23:52.22.
In total, the Augustana women placed fourth with 120 points averaging a time of 19:32.20 as a whole.Â
Four men ran for the Vikings this weekend. Junior Ryan Hartman finished the 8K race first for the Vikings running in a time of 24:33.35 while placing third overall in the first heat.Â
Sophomore returner Caden Tegethoff ran a time of 26:36.34 placing 46th overall. Following Tegethoff, was sophomore Isaac Fink with a time of 26:40.62 while finishing 52nd. Following his teammates was sophomore Beau Brock who placed 66th while running a time of 27:06.28.
"This is a great springboard toward Creighton and Bradley next week." Hellman added.Â
