Augustana Track & Field Sends Two Relays and Six Individuals to Nationals

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Augustana track & field teams are sending two relays and six individuals to Pittsburg, Kansas, on Mar. 11-12, to compete in the NCAA Division II Championships the NCAA announced Tuesday.

Mearah Miedema - High Jump

Miedema, a Sioux Falls, South Dakota, native, is making her second-straight appearance in the high jump on the big stage. She had a season's best jump of 5-8 at the SDSU Last Chance meet to punch her ticket to nationals. Her 5-8 mark ranks her 12th in the nation in the high jump.

Tyl Woelber - Heptathlon

Woelber, hailing from Pipestone, Minnesota, will be returning to the national meet in the heptathlon after his performance at the NSIC Indoor Championships. He placed first in the event scoring 5,378 points, breaking both the NSIC and facility record, along with being three points shy of his own school record. His point total ranks him ninth in the heptathlon in the nation. 

Patty Jo English - Mile

For the second-straight year, the Elko, Minnesota, native will be making her way to the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships in the mile. English ran 4:50.83 at the NSIC Indoor Championships, running under her previous school record. Her time ranks her 17th in the nation. 

Cami Streff - 800m

Streff, a native of Madison, South Dakota, broke the school record in the 800m at the SDSU Classic, running 2:09.61. The time ranks her fifth in the nation in the event. 

Nicolette Schmidt - Mile

Schmidt, coming from Redfield, South Dakota, will be joining English for her second-straight appearance in the mile at the national meet. Schmidt broke the school record in the mile at the NSIC Indoor Championships, turning out a blistering 4:50.34. Her time ranks 12th in the nation.

Austin Miller - Mile

Miller, a local of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, will be mixing it up in the mile for the second-straight year. He broke the school record at the Gorilla Classic earlier this season, running 4:02.40 to punch his ticket to the national championships. His time ranks him 12th in the nation in the mile.

English, Ella Heinitz, Streff, Schmidt - Women's Distance Medley

The distance medley relay of English, Ella Heinitz, Streff and Schmidt ran what was the No. 1 time in the country at the Mines Winter Classic earlier this season. The relay time of 11:55.96 broke the Steinhauer Fieldhouse record, with altitude and track conversions, the time moved to 11:32.29. The time currently stands at No. 4 in the nation.

Caroline Sudbeck will be joining the relay team as an alternate.

Evan Johnson, Matthew Schoessow, Miller, Hartman - Men's Distance Medley Relay

The distance medley relay of Johnson, Schoessow, Miller and Hartman had a historic performance at the Gorilla Classic running a scorching 9:39.26. he time broke the school record along with becoming the fastest South Dakota collegiate time in the event. The performance also went under the previous meet and facility record, and at the time stood as the No. 4 fastest time on the Division II all-time list. The time currently ranks No. 5 in the nation. 

Colten Brand will be joining the relay team as an alternate.
