ST. LOUIS, Mo.--Augustana wrestling junior Jack Huffman went 2-1 during the first day of the 2022 NCAA DII National Championships to earn All-American honors. Seven Vikings saw their seasons come to a close on the first day of the national championships at Chaifetz Arena in St. Louis, Missouri. Â
Jack Huffman - 133 pounds
Huffman, the No. 3 seed in the tournament, defeated Newberry's Timothy Luker in his first match of the day by way of 4-1 decision. In his second match, Huffman was defeated by Majid Corbett of Limestone.Â
Huffman became a 2022 DII All-American when he bested Eric Bartos of Mercyhurst by way of a 7-3 decision. He will wrestle for a placement Saturday in the consolation bracket.
Jaxson Rohman - 125 pounds
Rohman started the day with a match against second-seeded Paxton Rosen of Central Oklahoma, falling in a close match 1-3. The second match of the day for Rohman was against Evan Carrigan of Newberry, with Rohman earning the win by a 9-2 decision. Rohman was defeated by Joe Arroyo of Parkside in a close match to close out the season.
Keaten Schorr - 141 pounds
Schorr, a No. 8 seed in the tournament, fell in his first match of the day to Belmont Abbey's John Carayiannis. In his second match of the tournament, Schorr defeated Joel Cawoski of Seton Hill to move on and face Peter Kuster of Drury. There, he lost to end his season.Â
Hunter Burnett - 149 poundsÂ
Burnett was defeated in his first match of the tournament by fifth-seeded Sam Turner of Nebraska-Kearney. Recording a fall at 3:14 in his second match, Burnett earned a win over Ashland's Carson Speelman. Burnett was defeated in his third match to end his season.
Tyler Wagener - 157 pounds
Wagener saw a victory in his first match of the day against Nick Young of Gannon with a 6-5 decision win. The junior fell to Ryan Wheeler of Colorado Mesa in the first round of the championship bracket. Wagener saw his season end against Nathan Smith of Pitt-Johnstown as he sustained an injury.Â
Miles Fitzgerald - 165 pounds
In his first match, Fitzgerald lost to Nate Trepanier by an 11-2 major decision. Fitzgerald was victorious in his second match of the tournament, defeating Talon Seitz of Newberry in an 8-2 decision win. His season comes to a close with a loss against Western Colorado's Hunter Mullin.
Cade Mueller - 174 pounds
Mueller began his day at nationals with a 10-2 loss against Alex Kauffman of Central Oklahoma. The redshirt sophomore finished his season falling to Allen Michel of New Mexico Highlands in a 9-2 decision bout.
Steven Hajas - 285 pounds
Hajas started the day with a win, upending West Liberty's Francesco Borsellino with a fall at 5:45. Hajas moved on to face No. 1 Andrew Dunn of Kutztown, with Dunn defeating Hajas in a 5-2 decision win. In Hajas's final match of the season, he was defeated by Freddie Nixon of Gannon.Â
