Opening Night of Augie Invite Sees Records Fall, NCAA Cuts Made

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Augustana swimming and diving teams saw an opening night of success at the Augie Invite with school records falling and a pair of NCAA qualifying marks.

In the Fast Lane
  • Both 200 free relay teams set school records. The women's team of Bryn Greenwaldt, Angelina Chan, Makoa Montgomery and Meesha Montgomery set a school record while hitting an NCAA qualifying time. The quartet clocked in at 1:32.01 to break the school record by nearly a second.
  • The time sits as the fastest time in the nation entering the weekend across NCAA Division II.
  • The men's squad took more than two seconds off the previous school record as Peyton Bartsch, Zander Smith, Isaac Rokusek and Pedro Borin touched the wall in 1:23.72.
  • Bryn Greenwaldt and Makoa Montgomery each recorded NCAA qualifying marks in the 50-free. Greenwaldt clocked in at 22.81 while Montgomery touched the wall in 23.37.
  • In the men's 50-free, Pedro Borin placed sixth with a time of 20.96.
  • The final event of the day was the 400-yard medley relay. Much like the opening relay, the medley set a school record. The team of Bryn Greenwaldt, Nesrine Jelliti, Angelina Chan and Meesha Montgomery touched the wall in 3:46.12 for the school record and finished as the top DII quartet in the event. 
Off the Boards
  • David Binsfeld was .48 points off of a school record while winning the 1-meter dive. He totaled 240.20 points to win by nearly 10 points.
  • Caden Kavanagh earned a third place finish with 219.10 points.
  •  Avery Lommel was the highest AU finisher on the women's 3-meter dive with 220.10 points in sixth place.

The Augie Invite continues Friday and Saturday with prelims starting at 10 a.m. and finals at 5:30 p.m. at the Midco Aquatic Center.
