MANKATO, Minn -- The Augustana indoor track & field squad wrapped up the final day of the NSIC Championships with four NSIC Champions and six NSIC All-Conference finishes in Mankato, Minnesota, Sunday. Henry Klitzke and Colten Brand tied for the NSIC Championship High Point Scorer Award with 20 points apiece. Elizabeth Schaefer rounded up awards for the day receiving the NSIC Elite 18 award.
Minnesota State won both the men's and women's championships with 216.5 points for the women and 232 points for the men. Augustana was a runner up for both championships with 95 total points for the women and 96 points for the men.Â
"We are very excited to finish as runner up with both teams at the NSIC Indoor Championships," said Augustana Director of Track & Field Tracy Hellman. "Consistency at a high level is something our programs always strive for. It was a full team effort yesterday and today to put both teams in a position for the runner up finish. Along with numerous conference champions we had countless other student-athletes step up and score points for the team."
Henry Klitzke won two events at the NSIC Championships, one in the 3000 meter run and the second in the 5000 meter run. Klitzke earned 20 points for the Vikings to garner the high point scorer award for AU. Colten Brand joins Klitzke with the high point scorer award with 20 points through winning the one mile while garnering a second place finish in the 3000 meter and was part of the second place DMR.Â
Ryan Hartman joined Brand in the one mile, collecting a third place finish with a time of 4:11.64.
Patty Jo English opened the day for Augustana recording an NSIC All-Conference finish in the one mile with a time of 4:51.89 to place third. Mia Salas collected Augustana's third NSIC Champion title in today's meet, with a first place finish in the 1000 meter in a time of 2:54.92.Â
The Viking men conquered the 60 meter hurdles with a first and second place finish in the finals. Andrew Martens won the event while breaking an Augustana school record with a time of 7.96. Lawrence Lokonobei took an NSIC All-Conference finish being runner up in the event with a time of 7.97.Â
Caroline Sudbeck collected a runner up finish in the 800 meter crossing the finish line in a time of 2:12.51 to earn an all-conference finish.Â
Nyanas Kur collected the sixth all-conference finish of the day for Augustana with a runner up placement in the 200 meter dash recording a time of 24.50.Â
Across both days, Augustana collected six NSIC Champions and eight NSIC All-Conference finishes.Â
"We now await the release of the NCAA nationals participants and we are optimistic that we will have a strong representation," Hellman added. "As always it's great to be a Viking."
