Peterson Breaks School Record in Midweek Meet

MANKATO, Minn. – Maia Peterson of Augustana women's track and field broke the school record in the women's 400m as both the men and women competed in the Maverick Open Wednesday afternoon. 

Peterson crossed the finish line with a time of 55.59 in the women's 400m as she broke the previous school record time of 55.67 set back in 2015 by Anne Parsley. Finishing up behind Peterson was Ella Heinitz in seventh and Anna Jensen in 12th with times of 59.06 and 59.97. Jed Dooyema and Nick Batien finished with times of 51.64 and 53.46 on the men's side.

Trent DeCook knotted a fourth-place finish in the men's 100m with a time of 10.80. In the prelims, he crossed the line with a time of 10.92. On the women's side, Jennifer Noutsougan placed second with a time of 12.22 with Olivia Amundson quickly behind in fifth. 

Maria Pedroso and Anna Langseth qualified for the women's 100m hurdles finals after times of 15.09 and 15.32. In the finals, Pedroso finished seventh with a time of 15.04 with Langseth crossing the line with a time of 15.36. 

Decook continued his strong performance with a time of 21.68 in the men's 200m for fourth place. Melik Davis finished just outside the top 10 with a time of 22.43. Jennifer Noutsougan and Lily Juhnke crossed the line with a time of 25.43 and 25.85 on the women's side. 

Colter Johnson garnered a time of 58.74 in the men's 400m hurdles for ninth. On the women's side, Noa Marteau placed second with a time of 1:03.12. Langseth and Kasey Van Zee finished fourth and fifth with times of 1:05.97 and 1:07.35. Kaye Paschka finished out the Viking finishers in eighth. 

In the men's 800m, Ethan Boyens finished with a time of 1:54.31 for fourth place. Caroline Sudbeck finished second as she crossed the line with a time of 2:15.94 on the women's side. Sydnee Serck finished behind Sudbeck in fourth after a time of 2:19.21.

The Vikings dominated the 3000m steeple as both Isaac Fink and Eleni Lovgren finished first. Fink finished with a time of 9:59.96 while Lovgren hit a facility record time of 10:57.72. Lindsey Young placed fourth after a time of 12:10.21.

Kylee Sallee tossed her way to a sixth-place finish in the women's javelin throw with a mark of 34.07m 

The Vikings garnered a 2,3,4 finish in the women's long jump as Pedroso landed with a mark of 5.87m, Jayda Becker leaped to a mark of 5.83m and Sallee finished with a fourth-place mark of 5.78. 

The 4x100 Meter Relays team of Luke Berends, Cole Berends, Davis and DeCook bolted across the finish line with a time of 42.07. The women's 4x100 of Noutsougan, Sallee, Amundson and Lily Juhnke hit a facility record of 47.49 for first place. 

Kaja Salemonsen finished sixth in the women's triple jump with a leap of 11.70m. Samantha Sundby finished behind Salemonsen with a mark of 11.28m. 

Parker Fitzgerald ran his way to a fifth-place finish in the men's 1500m with a time of 3:59.97. Laura Thompson also grabbed a fifth-place finish in the women's 1500m. 

A trio of Vikings finished out the meet for Augustana as Benjamin Haberman finished in second with a time of 15:23.18. Caden Tegethoff finished with a time of 15:43.50 for fourth and Soren Weeg garnered a seventh-place finish with a time of 15:57.00. 

Up Next
Augustana will send a few Vikings to the USD Last Chance on Friday in Vermillion, South Dakota before the team gears up for the NSIC Championships May 9-10.
