Hartman Breaks His Own Record; Track and Field Shines in Three States

MANKATO, Minn. - The Viking track and field teams competed at the Mankato Invitational in Mankato, Minn. on Friday while making appearances in numerous meets out in California and Iowa.
 
MAVERICK INVITATIONAL | Mankato, Minn.
The 4x100-meter relays started the meet in winning fashion, as the women's relay team with Ellen Merkley, Lily Juhnke, Caitlin Ostbye, and Jennifer Noutsougan claimed first-place running a time of 48.13. 
 
The men's 4x100-meter relay with Layton Johnson, Trent DeCook, Luke Berends, and Melik Davis did the same with a time of 42.12.
 
Lindsey Young took fourth-place in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:45.83. For the men's team, Beau Brock and Parker Fitzgerald took eighth and ninth-place, running times of 10:15.00 and 10:16.89, respectively
 
The women dominated in the 1500-meter run with all six runners placing within the top 12. Tenley Nelson (4:47.36) placed second, Taylor Melton (4:47.89) placed third, Ramsey Karim (4:49.08) came in fourth, Ally Sample (4:51.98) was sixth, Avari Getchell (4:55.37) came in ninth, and Kaelyn Nelson (4:58.03) rounded out the group in 11th.
 
Alex Schumacher led the group of men in the 1500-meter run, claiming second place with a time of 4:00.50. Kieran Weigelt was right behind in fourth place with a time of 4:03.89. Addisu Haverly (4:11.26) placed seventh and Bridger Steiner-Smith (4:13.59) came in tenth. 
 
Maia Peterson took second place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 58.24. Ella Heinitz was close behind in fifth place with a time of 59.75.
 
In the 400-meter dash, Jude Jarding claimed the fourth-place spot, clocking a time of 49.56. Liam Schick was not far behind, taking 11th place with a time of 50.07.
 
Juhnke and Noutsougan continued their success in the 100-meter dash, placing third and fifth with times of 12.06 and 12.29, respectively. Juhnke's time puts her in the fourth spot overall in Augustana history. For the men, Johnson (10.86) took second place and Berends (11.27) claimed eighth. 
 
Tyler Christianson ran a personal best in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.33, finishing in seventh place. Baylee Van Zee placed ninth in the 100-meter hurdles, running a time of 16.38.
 
Ashton Massey, Maria Pedroso, and Jayda Becker claimed second, third, and fourth place in the 400-meter hurdles with times of 1:04.67, 1:04.71, and 1:05.11, respectively.
 
Christianson continued with the personal bests, claiming sixth-place in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 56.49. Tyler Sellin also competed and ran a 59.21. 
 
Noutsougan secured the fourth-place spot with a time of 25.02 with Ostbye behind her in eighth with a time of 25.53 in the 200-meter dash. Noutsougan's time breaks her previous fifth-place spot overall in Augustana history. 
 
Carrying on with the personal bests was Schick in the 200-meter dash, running a time of 21.71. This time gives Schick the eighth spot overall in Augustana history. DeCook was close behind in fifth place with a time of 21.84 and Davis (22.37) took seventh place.
 
The men's 4x400-meter relay team of DeCook, Schick, Christianson, and Jarding rounded off the night with a second-place finish clocking a time of 3:24.32. 
 
Over in the field events, Bryn Greenwaldt emerged victorious in the high jump with her clearance of 5-07.75 as Kylee Sallee took eighth with a 4-11.75.
 
Sallee then went over and won the long jump with a jump of 18-10.00 while Becker (18-05.00) was fourth and Maria Pedroso (17-06.00).
 
BRYAN CLAY INVITATIONAL | Azusa, Calif.
Ryan Hartman competed in the 5000-meter run on Thursday night, clocking a time of 13:39.57 for a fourth-place finish in the Invite Heat Four. With this time, he rewrote his top spot in school history and shattered his previous record by 10 seconds. 
 
He'll compete in the 1500-meter run later tonight.
 
Andrew Martens claimed 18th overall in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.57 while in the women's 200-meter dash, Nyanas Kur secured 19th place after running a time of 24.58.
 
PACIFIC COAST INTERCOLLEGIATE | Long Beach, Calif.
On Thursday afternoon, Martens clocked a 14.10 in the 110-meter hurdles, finishing eighth overall as the highest-placing Division II athlete in the field.
 
Kur ran a blazing time of 55.71 in the 400-meter dash, finishing fourth overall and first in her heat. Her clocking is now second all-time at Augustana.
 
RED RAIDER OPEN | Orange City, Iowa
Ostbye clocked a PR of 59.25 in the women's 400-meter dash for a second-place finish on Thursday as the lone Viking in competition at Northwestern College.
 
UP NEXT
Augustana will face another week of busy competition as it Is currently scheduled to compete in Minnesota and Iowa.
