BURNSVILLE, Minn. – Augustana's Tyl Woelber has been named NSIC Preseason Field Athlete of the year. Additionally, the Augustana track & field teams have both been tabbed to finish second in the NSIC Preseason Coaches' Poll announced on Friday morning.
Woelber is a two-time NSIC champion in the javelin (2019, 2021), while placing second in the decathlon in 2019 and winning the event in 2021 with his school record point total of 7,302 points.
He also holds school records in the javelin (206-4.50) and the high jump (6-11.25).
Austin Miller, the national runner-up in the mile, was tabbed as Preseason Track Athlete to Watch for Augustana.Â
Last outdoor season, Miller was the NSIC champion in the 1,500m while also taking third place in the 800m. He also holds the school record in the 1,500m with his time of 3:45.58.
The men of Augustana have added 12 newcomers to the squad while returning 27 from last year's roster. Augustana has a stellar core with six Vikings who earned All-Conference being among the returners back this season.Â
Augustana also returns all-conference runners in Alec Kray (5,000m and 10,000m), Henry Klitzke (5,000m and 10,000m), in addition to the NSIC champion in the 3,000m steeplechase in Ryan Hartman.Â
The NSIC also tabbed Cami Streff and Mearah Miedema as Preseason Athletes to Watch for Augustana.
This past indoor season, Streff broke the school record in the 800m and ran the 800m leg of the distance medley relay that placed sixth in the nation en route to a school record. Additionally, she qualified for the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships in the open 800m.
Miedema is the reigning NSIC champion in the high jump, winning the event at the outdoor championships, She broke the meet record with a leap of 5-9.75 to qualify her for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
The Viking women have added 14 newcomers to the squad to combine with 31 returners from last year's roster. Augustana returns two NSIC Champions in Rebekah Rairdon (3,000m steeplechase) and Miedema (high jump).
Augustana returns six All-Conference performers from last outdoor season highlighted by Megan Means (5,000m & 10,000m) and Patty Jo English (1,500m & 5,000m).Â
Augustana's outdoor campaign starts on April 2 as the squads head to the Dordt Invitational in Sioux Center, Iowa.
