Augustana Track & Field Sets Sights on NCAA National Championships

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – After qualifying for the NCAA Division II National Championships, Patty Jo English, Caroline Sudbeck, Mia Salas, Ella Heinitz, Nyanas Kur, Maia Peterson, Colten Brand, Andrew Martens, Lawrence Lokonobei and Henry Klitzke, are traveling to Virginia Beach, Virginia, this weekend to represent the Vikings at the indoor track & field national meet.

The Event
The 2023 championships will take place on Friday, March 10 and Saturday, March 11 at the Virginia Beach Sports Center in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Andrew Martens and Lawrence Lokonobei will begin the weekend of events for Augustana, starting with the 60 meter hurdles at 3 p.m. on Friday in the preliminary rounds. Finals for the 60 meter hurdles will take place at 3:50 p.m. on Saturday. 

Patty Jo English and Colten Brand will be competing in the mile event with preliminaries at 3:40 and 3:55 p.m. on Friday. Finals take place Saturday at 4:20 and 4:35 p.m.

Caroline Sudbeck will represent the Vikings on Friday in the 800 meter dash with preliminaries taking place at 4:40 p.m. Finals for the 800 meter dash will be at 5:10 p.m. on Saturday. 

Nyanas Kur will take the track shortly after Sudbeck, racing in the 200 meter dash Friday at 5:10 p.m. The finals for the 200 meter dash are on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.

Henry Klitzke will be the final individual competing on Friday, seeing his final run at 5:55 p.m. in the 5000 meter run.  

Rounding out the squad will be the women's distance medley relay of Mia Salas, Ella Heinitz, Sudbeck, English and Maia Peterson. The quartet will make their mark at 6:20 p.m. on Friday being the final event of the day for Augustana on day one of the national meet. 

The Athletes
Nyanas Kur - 200 Meter
Kur, a Sioux Falls, South Dakota native, will be making her way to the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships in the 200 meter. Kur broke the Augustana school record in the event at the NSIC Indoor Championships this past weekend. Kur's time of 24.13 ranks her at 11th in the nation. 

Patty Jo English - Mile
For the third-straight year, the Elko, Minnesota, native will be racing in the mile event on the national track. English ran 4:49.03 at the NSIC Indoor Championships to rank her 19th in the nation in the event. 

Caroline Sudbeck - 800 Meter
Sudbeck, a Sioux Falls, South Dakota native, heads to the national track to race in the 800 meter. Sudbeck ran a time of 2:11.00 at the NSIC Indoor Championships to rank her at 26th in the nation. 

Mia Salas, Ella Heinitz, Sudbeck, English, Maia Peterson - Women's Distance Medley Relay
The distance medley relay of Mia Salas, Ella Heinitz, Sudbeck, English and Peterson will be running the DMR on the national track. The quartet of Salas, Heinitz, Sudbeck and English ran a time of 11:36.47 at the NSIC Indoor Championships. The time ranks 11th in the nation. 

Colten Brand - Mile
Brand, a native of Winona, Minnesota, won the mile event at the NSIC Indoor Championships with a time of 4:04.88. He ranks 22nd in the nation in the event moving up in the Augustana school record with a third place spot. 

Andrew Martens - 60 Meter Hurdles
Martens, a Sioux Falls, South Dakota native, had a prolific performance this past weekend at the NSIC Indoor Championships in the 60 meter hurdles. He broke the Augustana school record in the event with a final time of 7.96 to rank him 13th in the nation. 

Lawrence Lokonobei - 60 Meter Hurdles
Lokonobei, a native of Salt Lake City, Utah, followed in pursuit of Martens in the 60 meter hurdles, claiming a 7.97 finish at the NSIC Indoor Championships in the event. Lokonobeir broke his previous school record by .03. 

Henry Klitzke - 5000 Meter
Klitzke, a native of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, won two events at the NSIC Championships this past weekend both in the 3000 meter and 5000 meter. Klitzke will race in the 5000 meter event with his best time being 17th in the nation at 14:06.49.
