ST. PAUL, Minn. – Augustana track & field opened the NSIC Outdoor Championships garnering one NSIC Champion and four NSIC All-conference marks while advancing eight individuals to the finals on day two of the championship in St. Paul, Minnesota, Friday.
Matt Steiger won the men's 10,000m run to be the first Viking to collect a champion mark this weekend. Steiger grasped a 30:55.75 finish to add 10 points to Augustana's total score. Jesse Kaas granted the Vikings another runner-up finish, seeing a second place mark in the event with a personal best time of 31:30.17. Seeing success for the women in the 10,000m was Megan Means. Means recorded a runner-up finish in the event seeing a 37:02.47 finish. Kaas and Means were the first Vikings of the weekend to grasp all-conference marks for Augustana.
In the men's 3,000m steeplechase, Ryan Hartman recorded Augustana's third all-conference mark of the day. Hartman raced in a time of 9:17.81 garnering a second place finish.
Collecting the final all-conference finish of the day was Kylee Sallee in the heptathlon. Sallee finished bronze in the event totaling 4,737 points. Sallee garnered a personal best in the 800m run, claiming a time of 2:29.23. Sallee also recorded a personal best in the 200m dash, finishing in a time of 26.00.
Eight Vikings have advanced out of the preliminaries and will race in the finals of tomorrow's events. With three student-athletes racing in more than one event.
Nyanas Kur advances to the finals of the 100m and 200m dash. Kur garnered a fourth place finish in the 100m dash racing in a personal best time of 11.75. In the 200m dash, Kur raced an additional personal best mark of 23.93 to win the preliminary race.
Elizabeth Schaefer grasped two trips to the finals Saturday, in the 100m and 400m hurdles. Schaefer collected a fifth place finish in the 100m hurdles with a personal best time of 14.39. She then garnered a fifth place finish in the 400m hurdles in a time of 1:02.45. Also joining Schaefer in the 400m hurdles is Noa Marteau, who claimed a seventh place mark in a time of 1:02.45.
The fourth Viking to record a trip to the finals was Andrew Martens, Martens won the men's 110m hurdles with a personal best mark and school record of 14.03. Martens grasped his second trip to the finals in the 400m dash. He raced in a time of 55.98 to claim a fifth place finish.
In the men's 200m dash, Gavin Fischer advanced to tomorrow's finals, grasping a 21.84 time recording a personal best.
Maia Peterson etched her name into the women's 400m finals securing a fourth place finish with a time of 57.18.
Caroline Sudbeck will race in the finals of 800m run, crossing the finish line in a time of 2:14.29.
The final Viking to advance into Saturday's finals is Jonah Breuer who raced in a time of 1:55.23 garnering a fourth place finish.
