Vikings Close Day One of the Rochester Invite

ROCHESTER, Minn. – The Augustana swimming and diving teams saw three school records smashed and plenty earn qualifying times on the first day of the Rochester Invite.

In the Fast Lane
-The 200 medley relay team continued its incredible start to the season as Bryn Greenwaldt, Nesrine Jelliti, Angelina Chan and Meesha Montgomery took home the A Final with a time of 1:41.22, their second provisional cut in as many races and just missed the school record. 
-Greenwaldt took the pool for the 50 free for the first time in the 2024-25 season and didn't disappoint, cruising to a victory at 22.11 for an A-Cut time. The time is the fourth fastest time in DII history and shattered her own program record. 
-Finishing third in the 50 free was Makoa Montgomery, whose time of 23.77 was just enough to earn a provisional cut.
-In the women's 500 freestyle, Maija Kangas took home the top time at 5:05.33, just missing a qualifying mark. 
-Matthew Pietsch broke a men's program record in prelims for the 500 freestyle, closing that race in 4:39.70. 
-In the men's 50-free, Peyton Bartsch placed sixth with a time of 20.85.
-Taking home a victory in the 800 freestyle relay was Kangas, Sofia Hein, Meesha Montgomery and Amaya Street, touching the wall in 7:40.06 to lead the pack. 
-The final event of the day was the Men's 800-yard freestyle relay. Collin Wilcynski, Pietsch, Lui Gabriel Pinto and Isaac Rokusek finished third with a time of 6:53.91. 

Off the Boards
-David Binsfeld broke the school record in the 1m Dive after putting up 436.05 points, enough to qualify for the NCAA Prequalifying Meet.

The Rochester Invite continues Friday and Saturday with prelims starting at 10 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m.
