VERMILLION, S.D. - The Augustana Vikings track and field teams had another successful weekend on the road, facing competition in three different states for three meets as several athletes finished within the top 10.
FRIDAY
Augustana split between two meets in two states, heading to the Sioux City Relays in Iowa and the Platteville Invitational in Wisconsin.
In Sioux City,
Tyson Ricker led a group of Vikings in the men's 800-meter run, clocking a 1:53.55 for fifth place.
Ethan Boyens (1:55.49) came ninth,
Alex Otten (1:55.55) was 10
th and
Will Sugrue (1:57.57) took 16
th.
Sydnee Serck crossed the finish line in 2:14.70 for runner-up in the women's 800-meter run while
Caroline Sudbeck followed close behind with a 2:15.37 for third.
Over in Wisconsin, six men ran in the 5000-meter run, led by
Erik Gundersen. His personal-best clocking of 14:20.71 was good enough for 17
th place.
Bryant Keller ran a 14:26.64 for 26
th in his event debut and
Payton Brown was 29
th in 14:28.27 for his first 5k. Also finishing were
Kadin Groen (14:32.13, PR),
Isaiah Anderson (14:42.20, event debut) and
Nick Batchelor (14:58.15, event debut)
SATURDAY
The women's 4x100-meter relay started off hot, placing second with a time of 46.97. The team of
Jennifer Noutsougan,
Nyanas Kur,
Kylee Sallee, and
Lily Juhnke had a new season best with that time.
The men's 4x100-meter relay team with
Layton Johnson,
Trent DeCook,
Luke Berends, and
Melik Davis followed suit, placing fourth with a season-best time of 41.75.
Sudbeck took second in the 1500-meter run, running a time of 4:49.58 while in the men's,
Evan Myran ran a 4:06.95, placing seventh.
Baylee Van Zee finished 10th with a time of 15.89 in the 100-meter hurdles.
Andrew Martens placed fourth in 14.38 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles. He also took fourth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 56.85.
Tyler Christianson followed behind him in fifth place, running a personal best with a time of 58.54, and
Tyler Sellin took seventh in 58.76.
Juhnke took fourth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.82 as Noutsougan finished ninth with a time of 12.21.
Maia Peterson ran a 57.95 in the 400-meter dash, taking third place.
Ella Heinitz took eighth with a time of 1:00.62.
For the men's 400-meter dash,
Jude Jarding and
Liam Schick both set personal bests with times of 48.70 and 49.46, placing fifth and sixth, respectively.
Sugrue ran a time of 1:58.58 in the 800-meter dash, placing sixth.
Ethan Boyens was close behind him, finishing eighth with a time of 1:59.63.
Jayda Becker ran the 400-meter hurdles in 1:05.35 to claim the fourth-place spot.
Ashton Massey was behind her in seventh place with a time of 1:05.98.
Kur, Juhnke, and Noutsougan dominated the 200-meter dash, placing second, fourth, and seventh with times of 23.64, 24.58, and 25.16, respectively.
DeCook made the top 10, placing eighth while running a 21.63 in the 200-meter dash.
Becker leapt to a first-place finish in the long jump with a jump of 18-05.75.
Claire Fierro placed ninth, setting a new personal best jump with a leap of 15-10.25.
Lauren Merkley (15-09.00) placed 10th and Lexi Olderbak (15-07.50) took 12th.
Bryn Greenwaldt jumped her way to third place in high jump with a height of 5-07.00 (1.70 meters). This jump puts her at 12th in all of Division II this season.
Nyamal Changson and
Mackenzie Hemmer took third and fourth place in triple jump with leaps of 36-07.50 (11.16 meters) and 35-06.50 (10.83 meters). Olderbak placed sixth with a jump of 34-09.00 (10.59 meters).
UP NEXT
The Vikings face a loaded week of competition, heading west for the Bryan Clay Invitational in California while also competing in the Dakota State Trojan Classic in Madison.
