Four Vikings Win Events on Final Day of MSU Open

MANKATO, Minn. – A quartet of Vikings came away with victories on the second day of the MSU Open in Mankato, Minn. A total of 29 Augustana placed in the top-10 on Saturday capping a strong weekend for the Vikings.

Dylon Van't Hof, Ryan Stiles, Josh Barrows and Glen Ellingson led Augustana with each student-athlete placing first in events on Saturday.

Van't Hof finished first in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.55. Evan Ward and Paul Meloche placed fifth and eighth, respectively in the 60-meter hurdles. Ward finished with a personal best time of 8.61.

Stiles won the 600-meters with a personal record time of 1:25.27 and Nick Reiffenberger placed fifth with a time of 1:27.66.

In the mile, Ellingson took first with a time of 4:19.09. Alex Tietz finished sixth with a personal best time of 4:33.71 and John Klecker finished in seventh.

Barrows won the 800-meters with a personal best time of 1:53.09. Barrows' time was good for the fourth best time in Division II this season and a provisional mark. Ellingson finished right behind Barrows with a personal best time of his own of 1:57.07.

In sprints, Carina Hofmeister and Cortney Dowling took third and fourth, respectively, in the 200-meters. Dowling also took second in the 400-meters and Emma Schmidt finished in ninth with a season best time of 1:00.09.

In the women's 60-meter hurdles, Irene Almarcha finished in second with a time of 8.95 and Ellie Rew finished fifth with a time of 9.22. In the preliminaries, Rew ran a personal record time of 9.16.

In mid-distance, Annie Kruse took third in the 1,000-meters and finished fifth in the mile. Austin Miller set a personal high in the 1,000-meters with a time of 2:49.84, good for a fifth place finish.

In the women's 800-meters, Brooke DeVos finished 10th with a personal best time of 2:26.85.

In field events, Anthony Huber took fifth in the weight throw and seventh in the shot put with a personal record toss of 47-04.25.

In the high jump, Eli Anderson finished third and tied his personal record mark of 6-00.75. Christine Campbell took fourth with a jump of 5-02.5.

In the triple jump, Coley Stoller and Morgan Rothschadl finished sixth and 10th, respectively. Rothschadl leaped for a personal record mark of 31-08.5. Josh Reider finished fourth with a mark of 40-02.75.

The men's heptathlon concluded on Saturday and Peter Schukking and Alex Woods finished eighth and 10th, respectively, with each setting personal bests in total points.

"Today was positive step forward as I felt we look much improved, even from just last weekend," coach Tracy Hellman said of his team's performance from the weekend. "It's all about momentum heading into February and we feel that we're in a great position to continue improving. We're excited to open up more of the team in the coming weeks, as well."

Next weekend the Vikings will return to Mankato Minn. for the Ted Nelson Classic on Saturday, Feb. 4.
