MANKATO, Minn. – Augustana track and field
Glen Ellingson and
Josh Barrows put together a solid weekend at the NSIC Indoor Championships in Mankato, Minn. this weekend.
Ellingson, a day removed from breaking the NSIC championship record in the 3,000-meters, went out and broke the championship record in the 5,000-meters. Ellingson raced to a time of 14:39.66 breaking the record previously set by former teammate
Keegan Carda who set the record last year with a time of 14:45.85.
Nick Larsen went on to finish fifth in the race with a time of 15:06.53.
Barrows, a day after breaking the championship record in the 800-meters, went on to win the 800-meters with a time of 1:53.73 in the finals.
Ellingson went on to finish fourth on the men's in the NSIC individual points rankings, scoring 20 points and Barrows finished 14th with 12 points.
On the women's side,
Olivia Montez Brown finished second in the NSIC individual points rankings with 23.5 points. Minnesota Duluth's Emi Trost finished in first with 30 points.
Montez Brown ended her NSIC tournament with a fifth place finish in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.62.
Irene Almarcha raced to a season's best time of 8.72 and a sixth place finish.
In the 60-meter hurdles on the men's side,
Paul Meloche set a personal record and hit a provisional mark with a time of 8.24. Meloche finished third and
Dylon Van't Hof placed seventh.
Carina Hofmeister continued to rewrite the Augustana record book in the 200-meters, breaking the record for the third time this season. Hofmeister raced to a time of 25.02 and finished in fifth.
In the 600-meters,
Austin Miller set his second personal best in as many days with a time of 1:22.71 and a fourth place finish.
Ryan Stiles finished eighth with a time of 1:28.74.
In distance races,
Mackenzie Kelly took fifth in the 5,000-meters with a time of 17:53.09. In the mile,
Annie Kruse took eighth in the women's race and
Nathan Schroeder set a personal best on the men's side in an eighth place finish.
Courtney Hottovy raced to a season's best time in the 1,000-meters and placed fifth.
In field events,
Coley Stoller finished seventh in the triple jump with a leap of 37-05.
In the 4x400 relays, the women's team of
Valerie Moos, Montez Brown, Almarcha and Hofmeister finished in third. On the men's side,
Chris Sharpe, Barrows, Miller and
Blake Savey raced to a sixth place finish.
In team scores, the men took fourth and the women placed fifth. Minnesota State won both the men's and women's team titles.
"We had some bright spots and some good things happen to close out the indoor campaign," coach
Tracy Hellman said of his team's indoor season. "We now turn out sights towards the outdoor track season."
While most of the track and field athletes will shift their focus to the outdoor season, some Vikings are hopeful to qualify for the NCAA Championships in Birmingham, Ala. on March 10-11.
