In Rochester, Augustana saw many records go down and qualification marks hit. Leading the way was
Bryn Greenwaldt, the NSIC Swimmer of the Week on Dec. 10. Greenwaldt hit an NCAA A cut and two NCAA B cuts as an individual and two B cuts as a relay member. Her 22.11 in the 50 free was the fourth fastest time in NCAA DII history. In all, Greenwaldt earned seven victories and five national qualifying times in a total of seven events while breaking two school records in the 50 free and 50 back.
Jelliti also broke a pair of school records at the invite, finishing the 100 breast in 1:02.26 and the 200 breast in 2:20.41. Her 100 breast time was good enough to qualify nationally while her 200 breast time missed by under a second.
Greenwaldt, Jelliti, Chan and
Meesha Montgomery earned a victory in the 200 medley relay, their second provisional cut in as many races and just missed the school record. Greenwaldt, Chan and Montgomery were joined by
Makoa Montgomery to earn qualification in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:32.76
On the men's side, eight records went down in the three-day invitational.
Matthew Pietsch led the way, touching the wall in the 500 free in 4:39.70 and finishing the 200 back in 1:48.84. Also breaking marks was
David Binsfeld. Binsfeld's 436.05 point total in the 1m 11 dive was enough to qualify for the NCAA prequalifying meet and on the next night broke the 3m dive when he took first with 455.40 points.
In the 100 breast, Kauffeld finished first with a time of 55.82, now giving him the top two times in program history.
Peyton Bartsch found himself in second place after he touched the line with a time of 51.67 in the men's 100-yard IM. That time puts him first in program history in the event. Also breaking records were
Isaac Rokusek (100 free, 45.53) and Dircks (50 back, 23.32)
The Vikings continue a home stretch next weekend as they host St. Thomas and Sioux Falls for a triangular on Jan. 17.
