McCracken earned a spot on the All-North Central Conference basketball team three straight years from 1960-63 and was the loop's Most Valuable Player in 1962-63. The 6-7 center from Flandreau was the 11th ranked all-time scorer for the Vikings with 953 points despite playing only three years under the freshman ineligible rule. His name appeared in the top three in three individual scoring statistics.
