During his collegiate career at Augustana, Jerry Larson was an athlete for all seasons.
     Â
Larson earned letters in cross country, track and tennis. And it didn't take long for him to make an impact on Augustana.
As a freshman he finished 81st in a field of 160 runners in the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division II cross country meet in Wheaton, Ill. In the spring he anchored Viking medley (3:34.1) and mile relay (3:24.8) teams to school records.
In three tennis seasons he posted a 20-0 record in doubles competition. Rich Stevenson was his partner for 19 matches.
Larson's singles record was an impressive 16-1. His play was instrumental in the Vikings winning the 1965 North Central Conference championship and finishing second in 1964.
In addition to his athletic participation at Augustana, Larson was a writer for the student newspaper.
Larson majored in psychology and history at Augustana and earned a bachelor's degree in 1966. He also holds master's degrees in sociology and criminology from the University of South Dakota and the University of Maryland.
