Michael L. Olson, was a defensive standout with the Augustana football team. As a linebacker, Olson was a three-year letter winner and two of the those years he was named to the all-North Central Conference team. No one had made the all-conference team two consecutive years from Augustana for 20 years preceding Olson. His senior year, Olson earned a reputation with many people as an iron-man. He had remained virtually injury free despite years of rugged service in the defensive backfield. In the last game of his football career, however, Olson went down with a knee injury that has necessitated considerable surgery.
Mike was impressive as a student as well as an athlete. He was an NCC all-academic choice and was the first Augustana athlete chosen to receive a NCAA post-graduate scholarship. After receiving his B.A. from Augustana in 1972, he went on to get his M.S. from the University of South Dakota and his M.D. from the University of Minnesota.
Olson also spent time as a member of the Augustana Fellows, a past president of the Augustana College Boosters and was a team physician for Augustana athletics for many years.
