Hall of Fame
Look at the Augustana Women's Basketball record book and you will quickly understand why Sandra Zwach Heinitz enters the Athletic Hall of Fame in her first year of eligibility.
A tenacious defender and an explosive offensive player, Sandra left an indelible mark on Augustana and the North Central Conference. Sandra was the North Central Conference Most Valuable Player in 1997. That same year, she led her Viking squad to the regional playoffs for the second time in her career. She is still the all-time career leader at Augustana in assists (574) and steals (318). Her assist mark is also an alltime record in the NCC. In addition, she is third on the career scoring chart with 1751 points. She was a three-time All-NCC selection and a Kodak Division II First Team All-American and a D-2 Bulletin All-American First Team. An excellent student as well, Sandra graduated Magna Cum Laude and was an Academic All-NCC selection in 1996 and 1997.
Sandra has fond memories of the great women's basketball played in the NCC. She wrote,"My most memorable game would have to be the UND game at the Elmen Center in 1997. They brought a team to Sioux Falls that night that would go on to win three consecutive national championships, but we were able to build a big lead and hang on to win a thriller. Of course, the SDSU games were always special. The NCC provided many wonderful rivalries and the women's basketball was outstanding across the league."
