Academic and athletic excellence were high standards set and maintained by Kelly during her four years at Augustana. She graduated Summa Cum Laude in 1983 with a degree in Elementary Education. Kelly was also the recipient of several academic honors during her four years including Dean's List, Sophomore Honors, All-NCC Academic team as a senior, and the College Honor Athlete, selected by the Sioux Falls Chamber of Commerce in 1983.
Kelly played basketball all four years and was named to the all-NCC tournament team as a sophomore and was named all-NCC as a senior. As a senior (1982-83) she was second in rebounds and first in field goal percentage with a 51% average. She finished her career with 854 points and was second on the career chart; she is currently 13th on the list. She is still second on the career rebound chart with 848, and holds the single season rebound record of 307. The Vikings were 58-44 during her four seasons of competition.
She has twice been nominated for "Teachers Who Make a Difference."
