Coach Bill Gross called him the team's "aircraft carrier," NCC opponents definitely found Keith Hasselquist a force to deal with when the action was concentrated in the paint.

A strong-built, 6-7 forward, Keith scored 1,230 points during his collegiate career for 9th which placed him on the career chart. On the boards, he claimed 723 rebounds for sixth place at the end of his career. Those stats are even more impressive when you realize he missed twelve games due to injury during his junior year in 1985-86. Keith was named All-NCC, All-North Central Region, and All-District V in both 1985-1986 and 1986-1987. In 1986-87, he also received All-NCC Academic honors. Keith was named to the Holiday Basketball Tournament all-tournament team twice, and earned several NCC Player-of-the-Week honors. During his four years, Augustana was 72-42 and competed in the NCAA Playoffs in 1986.

One of Keith's memorable games occurred during his freshman year; the Vikings defeated UNO in Omaha when they were previously unbeaten and #1 in the NCC. Also during his freshman year; the Vikings scored a record 2,382 total points, including 118 against NDSU.

Keith wrote of the game at St. Cloud State during his senior year when the Huskies were the top-rated team in Division II. "The game came down to the wire, and I tipped in a shot at the buzzer to win the game. It was even sweeter because St. Cloud is close to where I grew up in Minnesota, and I was fortunate to have several friends and family in the stands that night."
