Tenacious is a good word to describe Steve Krier on the basketball court.
His 1178 career point total still stands on the all-time list. His 506 assists stand second on Augie's career charts, and he shares the record for most steals in a game with seven. Steve started every game of his year years at Augie.
During the 1979-80, he was the NCC's second leading scorer with 19.1 ppg, fourth in the NCC with 4.9 assists per game, fifth in steals with 1.9 per game, and sixth in the league with an 80.5% free throw average. Against the NDSU Bison, he scored 36 points. Needless to say, Steve was named All-NCC for 1979-80 and was also named to the Argus Leader's South Dakota College Team. The Omaha World Herald named Steve to the All North Central Region Team.
Steve was a member of the NCC Championship team of 1977-78 and recalling clinching the title against NDSU; he played the entire game without scoring a point. During the 1976-77 season, Steve says, the Vikings played a non-conference game against Indiana State University and a little-known transfer named Larry Bird.
Steve graduated from Augustana in 1981.
