Robert Minick played only two years for the Viking basketball team but, as a 6-foot-3 inch center, he averaged 18 points per game. He was the North Central Conference scoring champion in 1954-55 with a 25.2 point average, led in free throws with 108 and field goals with 97, on his way to the All-NCC team recognition.

His Augustana school records included best free throw average for a game (21 of 22), most free throws in a game (22), most free throws in a season (155), best scoring average in one season (24.6-a mark which still stands), most points in one season (443), most points in one game (37), and most field goals in one game (14).
