Swanhorst, perhaps the most highly recruited basketball player in South Dakota in 1957, began a procession of stars to Augustana which culminated in a Viking co-championship for Coach Ole Odney. Swanhorst led Augie scorers and rebounders as a sophomore and junior and was second as a senior. As a 6-3 forward he averaged 12.1 rebounds (a school record) over his three year career. He still ranks third in rebounds in a single game (22 on three different occasions) and for a season (his average of 15.2 rebounds per game as a junior was also a school mark). He was All-North Central Conference two years.
