Jeff Rusk came to Augustana in 1980 from Wisconsin, and soon came to be well-known throughout the NCC for his ability to catch a football.
Jeff earned All-NCC honors as a junior in 1982 and was the NCC's most valuable offensive players as a senior. In 1983, he was also named to the second team of the Associated Press Little All-America football squad.
During his career as a Viking, he established school records for receptions in a season (65); touchdown catches in a season (9): career touchdown catches (16); yards receiving in a season (1,063); longest pass from scrimmage (86) and yards receiving in a career (2,077). He grabbed 118 passes as a Viking.
After his senior year, he was signed as a free agent by the New York Giants.
Jeff also participated in track at Augie, and still holds the record of 6'8" in the high jump.
As for all Vikings, beating the SDSU is memorable! During Jeff's sophomore year, he had an 80-yard touchdown reception, and the Vikes won 35-31.In a game against the Coyotes, he caught 10 passes for 225 yards (give or take a few yards) and the Vikes lost in a heartbreaker, 31-30.
